The Milky Way in Sagittarius

This is a 5 minute hand guided exposure at 50mm using ISO1600 film. The camera was attached to the frame of a homemade Newtonian telescope. I guided the image by holding on to the frame of the scope while keeping a guidestar in the center of the eyepiece.

Objects visible in this picture include:

• The V-shaped dark area at top center is called the Pipe-stem Nebula.
• The Lagoon Nebula (M8) is the red haze just left of center.
• The open cluster M7 is at right-center.
• There are many more...

I took this picture in New Mexico in 1988.
